My Story

Matt Sterling is a song-writer, custom composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and mix engineer.

Born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, Matt didn’t always have his sights set on the music industry. While earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly SLO, he taught himself to make beats in his free time between classes, projects, and internships. As his passion for music progressed, Matt got an internship at Chicago’s own Classick Studios to learn the technical/studio side of the industry, which is where he started to build his network of local talent and hone his skills. After graduating in December 2019, Matt began freelancing full time as a producer, composer, and mix engineer.

As a commercial composer, Matt has created original tracks for global brands in collaboration with music companies including The Elements Music, Squeak E. Clean Studios, and See Music Studios. Recent clients include Sonos, Apple, AMEX, Reeses, Best Buy, Aerie, Fresh Step, and IT Cosmetics.

As an artist, he produces, writes, performs, and mixes all of his own tracks, as well as produces, co-writes, and mixes for other artists both locally and abroad. His 2022 single, “Faded”, garnered attention with Spotify’s curators and ultimately landed on their “Fresh Finds R&B” playlist. He has also recently began a YouTube beat channel and accompanying beat store, which currently has over 2k subscribers and over 500k views.

As a human, Matt enjoys thrifting around the city, cooking, and going down Youtube rabbit holes.
